Health & Wellness Newsletters

I am the Health Education Specialist for the Central Montana Health District, which serves Judith Basin, Petroleum, Musselshell, Golden Valley, and Wheatland Counties. My goal is to put out Newsletters with useful information for a wide variety of audiences that relate to my program areas- Tobacco Education, Cancer Control, Worksite Wellness, and Healthy Living (including nutrition, physical activity, and chronic diseases). I also like to include a healthy recipe and Trivia questions…and humor whenever I can. (The link to sign up for my Wellness Wednesday e-mail list is below)

A Brief History: When I first started putting out my newsletter, pre-Covid, they were sent out on a weekly basis on Wednesdays, which is why I called them "Wellness Wednesday." When our office got overwhelmed responding to the pandemic, I put my focus on helping our office (case investigation, planning and working Clinics, etc.). Unfortunately, that meant that much of my program work, including my newsletters, went by the wayside. As things slowed down, I started to get back to doing newsletters (April 2022) but was only able to get them put out periodically. I found that my schedule now is too busy to commit to a weekly newsletter, and my last one went out in October 2022. This time around, I plan to shoot for at least a monthly newsletter, hopefully at least two per month. My original newsletters were created directly in an email, as I wanted it available when people opened the e-mail without having to open an attachment or click on a link. Although I liked this, it had its limitations (not easy to post on social media or share on our website). This time around I have revamped my newsletter (new colors, layout, PDF) and decided to recruit the help of my office mate to help me put together articles. These improvements will help me get out monthly or bi-monthly newsletters, as well as allow me to easily post it on social media and share it here.

Mammo Bus

The St. Vincent Healthcare Mobile Mammography Coach, otherwise referred to as the Mammo Bus, travels much of Montana and Wyoming, partnering with businesses and community organizations, in order to bring important screenings to women in their communities. The Mammo Bus provides the best 3-D screenings available in just 15 minutes. It's safe, private, and convenient! Screenings Save Lives!

The Mammo Bus service is not provided through the Central Montana Health District- the clinics are set up by, and all appointments are made directly through St. Vincent Healthcare. However, our role through the Central Montana Cancer Screening Program is to ensure that all eligible women have access to vital cancer screenings/procedures that aren’t otherwise fully covered by their insurance and/or if they don't have insurance. Therefore, women who are uninsured, or under-insured are encouraged to enroll in our Cancer Screening Program. Under-insured refers to those whose insurance doesn’t fully cover certain costs related to breast and/or cervical cancer screenings/procedures, such as additional scans, doctor visits, and biopsies. It's best to enroll in the program before receiving any screenings/procedures. At each clinic site in our area, we do try to set up an information booth (schedule and weather permitting) to provide information about our Cancer Screening Program and enroll eligible women.

Breast & Cervical Cancer Screening Program

CMHD Cancer Screening Logo The Central Montana Cancer Screening Program supports comprehensive cancer control in Central Montana by providing ongoing quality screening services to eligible women and education in a matter that is appropriate, accessible, cost-effective, and sensitive to the client's needs.

Screening services include mammograms, clinical breast exams, Pap tests, and pelvic exams for the early detection of breast and cervical cancers. Diagnostic testing is also provided for the follow-up of abnormal screening tests.

The Montana Cancer Control Program (MCCP) receives grant funding from the Centers of Disease Control and Prevention and State Special Revenue funds to implement cancer control activities. The MCCP is part of the Chronic Disease Prevention and Health Promotion Bureau in the Montana Department of Public Health and Human Services.
